Open Books is a non profit social venture that operates an extraordinary bookstore, provides community programs, and mobilizes passionatevolunteers to promote literacy in Chicago and beyond. Consider bringing a book to donate!

We will also be collecting donations for our Holiday Mom Gift Drive for the Sarah’s Inn Holiday Gift Project.  Consider bringing a new, unwrapped $15-$25 gift that a mom would enjoy!

Story Time Festival will include story time from notable local faces including Chicago author, Andrea Beaty, who will be releasing her newst picture book, Artist Ted in February!

Everyone who attends and donates a gently used book to Open Books will go home with their very own copy of Artist Ted!

Open Books is a nonprofit social venture that operates an extraordinary bookstore, provides community programs, and mobilizes passionate volunteers to promote literacy in Chicago and beyond.

Lunch and snacks for moms and baby will be provided for everyone.



Open Books is located one block from the Chicago stop on the Brown Line El.  There is ample street parking surrounding Open Books and a lot located around the corner from Open Books on Institute Place.

More than Milk says..

Come cuddle up with your kids and read during this day devoted to promoting literacy, Open Books and  the power of used books.

Make the $10 pledge to join us at Open Books on January 26th & read at least 5 books with your child or children.  If 25 pledges are made & fulfilled, our sponsors will donate $250 to support Open Book’s Literacy Programs.  50 pledges = $500!

Come any time between 10 AM & 4 PM and bring your friends!

February 8, 2012

Join us for a celebration of childhood favorites, literacy, and the community impact of Open Books!

Bring a favorite kid’s book to share & donate. In a speed-dating format, you will read your favorites to other mom & baby/child pairs and then leave with new friends and a list of  “baby bestsellers.”

In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Day, Open Books is thrilled to announce Dr. Seuss Day on Saturday, March 3rd!

This one-day-only event will celebrate the work of Dr. Seuss and engage children and families in fun, Seuss-inspired activities in order to create excitement and enthusiasm around reading and writing.

Stop in any time – we’ll be celebrating all day with coloring activities, facepainting, readings, children’s book discounts, and cake, AND with the following Super Special Suess Guests:

1 pm Seuss-inspired drama games with Emerald City Theatre Company

2 pm Seuss storytime with the renowned Storybook Mom

3 pm Seuss crafts with Wishcraft Workshop
