SAIC FASHION SHOW 2012

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Annual Fashion Show.
The SAIC Fashion Design department announces: Taking place for the second consecutive year against the backdrop of beautiful Millennium Park, this year’s fashion show—featuring more than 300 garments from SAIC’s Fashion Design BFA candidates showcased by more than 70 professional models from Factor Runway—will be the largest ever in the show’s 78-year history. This year’s runway show will conclude with the elaborate and diverse creations of more than 40 seniors, the largest graduating class in SAIC Fashion Design history. Fashion and art lovers from across the nation will enjoy a spectacular runway show featuring cutting-edge garments by the next generation of up-and-coming designers.

Paris Opéra Ballet’s “Giselle,” presented by Harris Theatre @ Millenium Park

Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras at Millennium Park
Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) has provided music education through orchestral programs and performance opportunities of the highest caliber for 65 years. During its 65th Anniversary season, CYSO is serving 440 talented Chicago-area musicians ages 7-18 through five core orchestras and supplemental programs including chamber music, music theory and composition.
CYSO’s internationally renowned Symphony Orchestra will perform this special program as a preview of its upcoming tour to Spain – Jonathan Newman’s Blow It Up, Start Again, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor, R.Strauss’ Don Juan and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.

Garden Fairy Houses, presented by Lurie Garden
Garden Fairy Houses. Saturday, Aug. 18, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Add magic and sparkle to your garden with Linda Haas, artist and owner of Fairy House Designs and Workshops. Create a magical environment using dried organic plant material from the Lurie Garden to lure fairies to your garden! Each child will decorate a fairy house to take home. Note: Children must be at least 6 years old and accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required.
