Upcoming Events At This Venue

March 13, 2012

A part of Journalist Laura Washington’s monthly series In the Know, Chicago History asks Chicago citizens:

Do the new “automated speed enforcement” laws just raise city revenue, or benefit citizens in other ways? Do Chicagoans feel safer with cameras on our street corners or is the government spending too much time and money looking over our city of big shoulders?

Join us as for a discussion about Chicago under surveillance, as we talk about what these cameras mean to the city, our safety, and look at larger implications of privacy and just what constitutes as public space.

Some of our panelists will include Jodi Weis, Deputy Director of the Crime Commission and former Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department, Rajiv Shah, assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago whose research seeks to understand the relationship between the design of information technologies and society.
