New Year’s Revolution

Well hellloooo, 2012!  As we pull down the tree, scrape the wax off the menorah, and box up the holiday decorations, it’s time to mobilize.  “Huh?” you ask,  “After the last six weeks of magical family mayhem?”  Yes, Chicago moms and dads, it’s time to get moving, because we’re starting a revolution.

Resolutions are so 2011.  This year, with hip and urban parents (that’s you!) leading the way, it’s all about revolutionizing the family experience. Health, sex, literacy, safety, technology, and community action: it’s time to transform how we see all aspects of our lives as parents.

And, of course, since we’re Families in the Loop, we just have to add a few extra treats.  Starting this month, we’ll discover what our extended family members think about their relationships with our tots, transform our perceptions of special needs families, and improve our relationships with our in-laws. And don’t forget our community calendar, with all of the hottest Chicago happenings for grownups and families.

Before we start the revolution, though, we just have to take a moment to celebrate one very special birthday…OURS!  On January 7, 2011, we launched Families in the Loop.  Being the perfectionists that we are, we had high hopes, but nothing could have prepared us for the outpouring of love and excitement we’ve experienced over the last year.

We’ve held over a dozen events, published hundreds of articles from experts near and far, and even chilled out with superstars like Oprah and CPS CEO J.C. Brizard. We’ve shared laughter and tears on our Tribune and Chicago Parent blogs and, through it all, showcased urban parenting in a whole new way.  We’re so proud of the past year and even prouder to say that this is only the beginning.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, dear families, partners, contributors, and friends for making Families in the Loop a representation of what parenting is today – hopeful, fun, feisty, fresh, and full of love for our families and our community.
